A Challenge To You

Dear Friends,

Although I promised to discuss turning memories into one-page memoirs in this newsletter, it turned out I'll be sharing on that topic as guest blogger on October 20 at www.polkadotbanner.com. Therefore, I'll take this newsletter opportunity to pose the question: "What do I wish someone would do for Christ that I could do myself?"

As I read Melinda Rankin's story in Sisterhood of Faith this morning, my own writing challenged me with that question. I immediately thought of the vacant library coordinator position at our church. I had served as librarian in the past and I love library work, so it's really a no-brainer. I just need to find out what's going on in church libraries today that might help us revitalize our ministry. (Let me know if you have any suggestions) Actually, it should be fun. I think I'll volunteer. Now it's your turn: What do YOU wish someone would do for Christ that you could do yourself?

Speaking of libraries and books, I've read some good ones since my June newsletter. You won't be able to put down the memoir Scandalon by Susan Elaine Jenkins. It reads like a novel with lots of surprises. Making Sense Out of Life--The Answers You've Been Looking For by Patrick J. McGuffin offers practical steps to take to get your bearings when the going gets tough. When I Lay My Isaac Down by Carol Kent tells of the author's turmoil when her model son was arrested for murder. The Butcher's Daughter tells the story of Sandra Lesher Stuban, an army nurse with ALS. She grew up in my area. Check my website (www.shirleybrosius.com) to read reviews on these excellent books. I've also started blogging on my website and plan to mention what I'm reading as the days roll by.

Visit www.friendsoftheheart.us to read our weekly devotionals. I'm currently querying publishers about a devotional book I'm writing with my Friends of the Heart, Kim and Janine. And mark your calendar to check out The Polka Dot Banner website on October 20 if you're interested in turning memories into one-page memoirs.

Have a blessed Autumn.
